On May 17 2016, Kuching Port Authority organized a briefing session on “Guidelines Regarding the Verified Gross Mass” (VGM) of Container Carrying Cargo. It was conducted by marine Department, Sarawak.

The amendments to the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Regulation V1/2 and the adoption of MSC. 1/Cir.1475 is to obtain an accurate gross weight of packed containers that are moved through the supply chain prior to loading on board the ship.

Shippers are required to determine method used to obtain VGM of their containers based on the guidelines by MSC. 1/Circ.1475 and to submit their companies’ registration to Marine Department.
