On 18 November 2015, Kuching Port Authority (KPA) and Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMCD) hosted a Study Visit at Senari Terminal for a group of 46 students from the Faculty of Business and Design of Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus. The visit was led by Dr. Ling Chui Ching. The students were received by Mr Rosli Saup, General Manager of KPA and presentations were given by Mr Robert Lau of KPA on the port operations and dredging of the Sarawak River, to allow bigger cargo and cruise ships to call at Kuching Port and by Puan Hasma bt. Haji Suhaili of RMCD on the functions and indirect tax collection by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department. The students visited the Senari Terminal’s operations area and RMCD’S container scanning machine, to have a first hand knowledge of the container handling and inspection procedures at the port. The trip is a valuable and inspirational experience for the students to not only consolidate existing knowledge in taxation but also how it applies in the business environment.
