Kuching Port Authority Celebrate Year End Appreciation and Certificate Presentation Ceremony 2016

The Year End Appreciation and Certificate Presentation Ceremony was held at Port Operation Building of Kuching Port Authority (KPA) on 1 December 2016 to appreciate the longly commited service of the retired staffs and also to present the certificates and awards in recognition to the well contributions and achievements of its employees in the year 2016.

In the ceremony, the Chairman of KPA, Y.Bhg Dato Awang Bemee Bin Haji Pengiran Ali Basah expressed his confidence of the Port in facing the coming economic challenges with its prudent financial management together with the awarded ISO 9001 : 2015 in the management of general, dry bulk and containerised cargo during September this year. He also added that KPA started to build new bulk cargo facilities at Senari Terminal over the next 3 years. The estimated cargo throughput of 2016 is to be 9.25 millions tonne and 221,210 TEUs of contanerised cargo.

Among the significant events of the year is the visit of Minister of Transport, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai to Senari Terminal on 27 February 2016 with his announcement of allocation of RM360 millions for dredging of Sarawak River which will allow bigger vessels to access the terminals without having to wait for the tide. In this year, KPA also celebrated its 55th Anniversary on 26 April 2016 and was appointed as “Jabatan Bapa Angkat” for Perak Sports Contigent during the SUKMA XVIII Sarawak 2016. To commensurate its increased competency, a new patrol boat was purchased to enhance the security of Sarawak River with more efficient patrol inclusive the limits of private jetties and curb illegal activities with regulations. The Port Authority also took part in the programme “Sejiwa Senada” in Kuching, Semarahan, Saratok and Sri Aman.

Besides, KPA also carried out various trainings to edify the competency and efficiency of its employees and held 4 blood donations, as well as provision of practical training to some 25 students from different colleges and universities in terms of Corporate Social Responsibility.
